12:28 After the king had consulted with his advisers, ¹  he made two golden calves. Then he said to the people, ²  “It is too much trouble for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look, Israel, here are your gods who brought you up from the land of Egypt.” 12:29 He put one in Bethel ³  and the other in Dan. 12:30 This caused Israel to sin; ⁴  the people went to Bethel and Dan to worship the calves. ⁵

A Prophet Announces the End of Jeroboam’s Dynasty

13:33 After this happened, Jeroboam still did not change his evil ways; ⁶  he continued to appoint common people ⁷  as priests at the high places. Anyone who wanted the job he consecrated as a priest. ⁸  13:34 This sin caused Jeroboam’s dynasty ⁹  to come to an end and to be destroyed from the face of the earth.

14:16 He will hand Israel over to their enemies ¹⁰  because of the sins which Jeroboam committed and which he made Israel commit.”
